Hot tools are part of most people's routine, and there's nothing wrong with that. The damage doesn't come from using heat — it comes from using it carelessly. With a few small changes, you can keep your straightener and your blow-dry in the routine without paying for it in dryness, breakage and dull ends.
Always use a heat protectant, every single time
This is the one rule we'll never bend on. A heat protectant puts a barrier between your hair and the iron, spreads the heat more evenly and locks in moisture so your strands don't scorch. Apply it to damp hair before blow-drying, and again on dry hair before any straightener or curler. It takes ten seconds and it's the cheapest insurance your hair will ever have.
Turn the temperature down
Most irons run far hotter than your hair actually needs. Fine or coloured hair styles beautifully around 150 to 180 degrees, and only thick or very coarse hair needs to go higher. Cranking it to the max doesn't style faster — it just cooks the cuticle. Lower heat with one slow, deliberate pass beats high heat with three rushed ones every time.
Dry properly before you reach for the iron
Clamping a straightener onto wet or even slightly damp hair is one of the fastest ways to cause damage — you'll often hear it sizzle, and that's moisture boiling inside the strand. Rough-dry to at least ninety per cent before any hot tool touches it. While you're at it, point the dryer nozzle down the hair shaft rather than at the roots; it smooths the cuticle and cuts down how much heat you need afterwards.
Give your hair a day off
Heat damage is cumulative, so the simplest fix is using less of it. A couple of heat-free days a week, a refreshed style instead of a full restyle, or a loose overnight plait for soft waves all add up. Your hair holds a style better when it isn't fried, so you'll often find you reach for the iron less anyway.
Feed it back what heat takes out
Even with perfect habits, regular styling draws moisture and protein out of the hair over time. A prescribed treatment puts that back — we read your hair first, then match a hydrating or strengthening treatment to what it actually needs, so it stays resilient enough to handle the heat. It's the difference between hair that survives your routine and hair that thrives through it.
