The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is one of the most underused entitlements in Australian healthcare. A large share of eligible families never claim it, usually because they do not know it exists or assume the paperwork will be difficult. It is neither.
At Gumdent we bulk bill the schedule, which means Medicare pays us directly. You pay nothing and there is nothing for you to claim back.
What is covered
- Examinations and dental imaging
- Professional cleans and fluoride treatment

What is not covered
Orthodontic treatment, cosmetic work and anything performed in hospital sit outside the schedule. If your child needs something not covered, we tell you clearly and in advance, so you can decide.
Three steps to use it

A normal children’s visit. Gentle, unhurried, and geared to making your child comfortable.
- 3We claim it for you
We bulk bill Medicare directly. Nothing to pay on the day and no forms to lodge.

How much is covered?
Up to $1,132 per eligible child across two consecutive calendar years. We bulk bill it, so eligible families pay nothing and there is no claim for you to lodge.
Who is eligible?
Broadly, children aged 0 to 17 for at least one day of the calendar year, who are eligible for Medicare, and whose family receives an eligible payment such as Family Tax Benefit Part A for at least one day of that year. Ring us with your Medicare card and we will check for you.
What treatments does it cover?
Examinations, dental imaging, cleans, fluoride treatment, fissure sealants, fillings, root canal treatment and extractions. It does not cover orthodontic or cosmetic treatment, or anything done in hospital.
Will I get a bill for the gap?
No. We bulk bill the schedule directly, so while there is balance remaining there is nothing to pay. If the balance is running low we tell you before starting treatment, never after.
Does the balance roll over?
No. It runs across two consecutive calendar years and any unused amount is lost after that. It is worth checking your balance toward the end of a calendar year.
