Armadale Residence sits inside a Victorian-era home, reimagined by Chris Connell Design and built by our team. The Local Project gave it a project feature, and the write-up caught exactly the tension the project plays with.
There is an evidenced industrial feel to the space, with exposed concrete flooring, stainless steel and the feature red column, while softer oak and marble countertop elements add a warmth and connect the space to the home it sits amongst. The Local Project
Industrial inside heritage
Exposed concrete floors inside a Victorian home is a sentence that makes builders nervous. Concrete does not forgive, and neither does heritage fabric. Getting an industrial palette to sit calmly inside a period shell means every junction between old and new is a designed moment, the red column carrying real load and real attention, the stainless steel meeting oak on terms both can live with.
The chef’s kitchen
The heart of the project is a serious kitchen, marble counters and stainless steel built for someone who actually cooks. Fitting commercial-grade function into a domestic heritage envelope is a sequencing exercise, services first, stone last, everything protected in between.
Chris Connell’s design asked the house to hold two characters at once. Our job was to make sure neither one blinked.
