Some projects we tell you about when they are finished. This one deserves a note from the middle. Boulevard House in Camberwell is on site now, designed by Peter Barton Architects with interiors by Studio Doherty, and it is carrying some of the most considered detail work we have ever put our name to.
The blade screens
The facade carries blade screens executed with mortise and tenon joins over steel. Hidden fixings. Every angle offset and considered. You could do a batten screen out of aluminium and be done in a week. This is not that.

Two studios, one house
Working under a design team of Peter Barton Architects and Studio Doherty means the architecture and the interiors were composed together from the start. Our sequence has to honour both. The joinery package is protected from the wet trades, the screens are staged so nothing sits on site collecting damage, and the garden is being built to grow into the architecture rather than decorate it afterwards.
We will write again when the keys change hands. For now, the score is holding, and the house is starting to tell us what it wants to become.
